LIN Specification

The first LIN specification originated in the year 1999. In the year that followed, the LIN consortium presented LIN specification 1.1 at the SAE Conference in Detroit. This involved the three parts "LIN Protocol Specification", "LIN Configuration Language Specification" and "LIN Application Interface Specification". The LIN specification was revised again in the year 2000 and was published in November 2000 (LIN 1.2). Two years later, in November 2002, LIN version 1.3 was published. It was primarily the physical layer that was revised.

After another year of revisions, LIN specification 2.0 followed in September 2003. The main focus of revision work was to keep pace with current and future trends in the automotive industry. A key goal was to create all of the conditions necessary for quick, simple and reliable development of LIN networks. "Off-the-shelf" nodes, automatic design and generation are an expression of adaptation to realities.

LIN specification 2.1 has been in existence since November 2006. Since then it has evolved into a set of eight sub-specifications. The goal of this version, compared to LIN specification 2.0, was to improve comprehension. Among other things, the "Assign frame ID" service was replaced by the “Assign frame ID range” service, and the method for handling an “event triggered frame collision” was changed. Finally, three diagnostic classes are now distinguished.
